Shareen Vintage

Recently I have developed a new fascination with a woman I have never met.My husband and I went to Umami Burger in Hollywood and I saw this young woman with a great vintage handbag. She told me that she got it from Shareen Vintage in Los Angeles. When I got home I googled the name and found the location of the warehouse. I perused her website and signed up for her newsletter. She has an amazing aura that comes across in her newsletter that is very warm and inviting. Kind of like your having coffee with an old friend . I want to share with you the body of her newsletter. You can visit her website here http://shareenvintage.com/
I recently shared a communication with a young women regarding her frustration
with 'a boy".
Below, my answer, and my truth on the subject.
I only wish I knew, many years ago, what I know now.

As a woman you are art, beauty, joy hope, love, creativity, light, inspiration, sensuality, the truth, heaven and earth. You are the sun, the moon, the stars, You are religion.
A man is meant to adore, appreciate, delight in and protect you.

>From a woman a man comes to know all the finer things of life. A woman is a man's solace. She is his inspiration, his hope, his joy and his pleasure. She is his harbor, his library, his home.

You spend your time on you.
He spends his time on you.
You spend your money on you.
He spends his money on you.
Trust me, it is an even set up.
He gets what he wants, needs, and dreams of, and you are honored, protected and cared for as you should be.

The time you spend on you is actually hard work and the money you spend on you is an investment in both of you.
You are in a graduate program that is an MFA in all things Goddess.
You are learning about love. You are taking time to create a pleasant environment of home. You are investigating the laws of the universe, and caring for your body, soul, and mind. You are filling your heart with all the riches of nature, and bringing your spirit to a place of peace, joy, harmony, generosity and kindness.
He is to show appreciation for you as one would a Goddess.
He should bring little offerings to your door, create moments of ease and pleasure for you, lead the way so that you are safe, and celebrate you in all the ways that would honor you. And he should learn these ways.
.
A Goddess never, never worries about what a man feels for her.
A man's job is to uncover her feelings, to court them, win them, and then protect them.
He should spend time studying your feelings because from them he will learn great truths.
It is imperative that you treat yourself like a Goddess, do the work of a Goddess, study the lessons that a Goddess would study in order to be a Goddess on this earth today.
This way you will be worthy of being treated like a deity.
Women are divine.
Live up to your sex.
You will then be honored as are the finest of your sex.

Needless to say, you should never seek a man's attention.
You are a gazelle eating in the early morning light. You are a lioness scaling a cliff for food, you are a zebra running with power and beauty across the African tundra, you are a butterfly dancing in the light of sunset. You are alive and breathtaking and inspiring.
Would any of these creatures seek out a hunter?
And a man is a hunter.
And he needs to hunt.
Do not steal from him that the thrill of capture.
His prey is life.
And a woman is the embodiment of life.
Be life. Be alive. Study life. Claim life. Be tantalizingly alive.
And as you are hunted, dart, and dance, and shimmer, and laugh.
For once he takes you he will damage you just a little to make you his own.

Always run from the hunter and when you go down, only stay down if his song, his praise, his joy in your capture is equal to all you will sacrifice to be his.
Once his, your dance will not be the same. Your feathers will fall away, you will no longer know freedom, or the power of your entertainment.
He, on the other hand, will have at hand....... Woman.

Again, make yourself worthy of being treated like a Goddess.
Spend time doing the learning in order that you may know love, and beauty.
Do the hard work required to understand what it is to live a good and truthful life.
Take the time to pamper, please, honor and reward yourself.
And when in the company of a man, offer to him generously of your gifts;
Do this by way of experience not lecture.
And then expect only that he treat you like the bit of heaven that you are.
If not, without explanation, with out argument, lift up and fly away.
Poof.
Gone.
Beauty, light, magic.
Gone.

The Color of Beauty

Yesterday I came across this video on the Internet.  The Color of Beauty is a documentary that follows an up and coming model Renee Thompson.  It’s a very short documentary but it made me think about what is it about black a woman that does not fit into advertising.  As a teenager I modeled for a very short period of time and one of the biggest problems I had was the constant weight ins and fixes that I needed.  Personally I felt that I could find many issues with myself without someone else telling me what was wrong with me.  I admire women who aspire to be top models because I can only imagine what they may have to go through to get to that point.
When I first considered starting my boutique I looked for vintage black or Hispanic pin up girls and I could not find any. I’m sure they existed in the 50’s but somehow they weren’t popular.  Is that strictly because they were black?  I find it hard to believe that service men had pinups of white women since it was frowned upon.  I never wanted to make this about race and racism because I believe that in order to eradicate racism you have to have true equality.  There has to be no line between Black, White, Hispanic or Asian.  The prejudices that people have about other races and racial jokes have to stop.  My children are multiracial so I hope that when they grow up and have children that racism will truly be a thing of the past.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings "I Learned the Hard Way"

I just discovered Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. The sound of her voice is so soulful and passionate. R & B today has changed and has too much bling and booty bumpin' for me. The last thing I want is for my daughters to sing about wanting to find a man her bills, or daisy dukes and bikini tops. I'm not going to say that I don't enjoy some of that music but when that it all you hear it's refreshing to hear something different.

Ramblings

I was born in Belize City, Central America. I came to America at a very young age and I have been in America longer than I have lived in Belize but I consider myself Belizean. For the past fifteen years I have been involved in real estate. From origination to sales to secondary marketing you name I’ve done it. Now at 33 I want to do something that doesn’t quite feel like work. Real estate is not always fun and exciting. There are quite a few rude people in real estate and lately I don’t feel like it’s worth it, but I have a family to feed so I continue my journey with hopes that people will become nicer or more professional but I’m still waiting….
I’ve always wanted to own my own women and kids clothing boutique. I love vintage inspired clothing and the pinup girls of the past. Pin Up Girl Clothing has amazing clothes so does Heartbreaker Fashion but my one complaint is that there are not many women of color that embrace that look; or at least they aren’t being depicted. When I first started looking for pin-up models of color it became discouraging to see so few nationalities represented. Hopefully one day I can change that!
Initially I was going to use this blog to only talk about my store, but I figured it would be better to express myself and get to know me again.

Introducing...

Since this is my first blog I should introduce myself and explain the title of my blog. My name is Caslyn and I was born in Belize City, Central America in 1977. I am a mother of three beautiful children, two girls and one boy and a wife to a wonderful husband. I love food, laughter and spending time with friends and people I love. I love God, family and shopping.

This blog was created for many reasons but the most important for me is that it’s cheaper than therapy. I have many opinions that I want to share but I would rather not pay someone to listen to me. Also, I’m starting a new online boutique with women and children’s clothing because I really dislike the clothing that I see people wearing today. I can’t understand why the clothes have to be tight, see thru and leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination. The glamour of old movie stars like Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren makes me wonder how we went from such glamour to trampy wear. Hence the name A Lady Not a Tramp!

As a disclosure I am by no means a great writer so my blog will have grammatical errors and many times spelling errors. So you have been forewarned so no being condescending about my errors. I hope you enjoy my daily musings ; )
